Pretty Polonaise, 1775 by FireLilyCosplay Pretty Polonaise, 1775 by FireLilyCosplay

NOT Elizabeth Swan, though most people think that.

This is a 1775 French Polonaise, worn retrousse dans les pouches (pulled through the pockets).  Sewn using patterns taken from Janet Arnold's Patterns of Fashion 1 (and I didn't even have to alter the size!).  I used a very pretty decorator fabric I've had in my stash for a few years for the dress and trimmings.  The petticoat (underskirt) is made from a coral pink satin with self trimmings.  I also have (unseen) a chemise of plain cotton muslin, a cotton petticoat, a linen petticoat, a 5 inch wide bum roll, stays (corset), and stockings.

The hat was altered from a bubblegum pink tall crown hat.  I took apart the crown and restitched it to be smaller, then sprayed it with floral spray to get a pastel color.  Trimmed with green taffeta and white silk, pink paper roses and a white silk bow.  The earrings were on clearance at the craft store.

I'm very proud of this outfit!!  It's my first 18th century garment, and my 4th historical garment to date.  More pictures to come!

I am glad to finally witness your tribute to the Rococo. As to LIAISONS DANGEREUSES and VALMONT, Fairuza Balk is an infinitely better actress than Uma Thurman.:) (Smile) :) (Smile) :) (Smile) :) (Smile) :) (Smile)

I love the colors!  I'm not usually a pink person, but it really does look great with that yellow.

Thank you!  I was trying to decide between a pale green and the pink, and I felt the pink would help draw out the pinks in the flowers and look better overall.  The green seemed a bit too timid and bland when paired with the floral fabric.

You're welcome.  I definitely think the pink was a good choice.

It's lovely and a bright, cheerful color, but I can't really see much of it from the photo.

:D did you also saw Valmont version of the story ? visually speaking it's so much richer and cute and light hearted vs the Glen Close version let's say

YES - Valmont is much better in my opinion, and I think it's because I like the actors better and the age ranges were closer to the book.  Plus, Colin Firth is, like, the king of period dramas :D
